Bowman Science Fair – Registration Deadline Extended to Friday, February 5
We hope your children will participate and share their interest in science as they’ve done in previous years. Here’s a short overview of this year’s Fair:
What’s the same
- Student Scientists are welcome to work individually or in small groups.
- Students should design a project that answers a hypothesis by doing an experiment or demonstration. Visit the “What to do?” page for project design guidance.
What’s different
- Since we are not able to gather in person, students will share their projects in a Google slideshow (using their LPS, Bowman School account). Students are encouraged to include a combination of photos, videos, and text in their slideshows.
- Projects will be featured on the Bowman Science Fair website and will be available for all of the Bowman community to view.
- Depending on student demand and the number of Visiting Scientist volunteers, students can opt to discuss their projects with a Visiting Scientist via a Zoom call. Zoom calls will likely be held among 2-4 student groups sharing their projects with the Visiting Scientist and their classmates in the same grade.
- Parents – your consent is needed! Please check the parent consent box on the registration form to allow your child’s image and/or name to appear on their slideshow.
- Parents – your consent is needed! If you would like your child to have a Zoom call with a Visiting Scientist, please check the parent consent box on the registration form.
Key dates
- Registration open: Monday, Dec 14th – Friday, Feb 5th (Deadline Extended!)
- Project slideshow links due: Sunday, Feb 21st
- Visiting Scientist Zoom calls (tentative): Monday, March 1st – Thursday, March 11th

Bowman Writes is Happening This Year!
Every Bowman student will have the opportunity to publish their writing or artwork in Bowman’s printed literary magazine. This year, students will work with their classroom teachers to choose their best work, and teachers will submit their work for publication.
What to Include
Every student can submit one piece of original writing or artwork. Submission of students’ best work will come from your classroom teacher. Stories and artwork will be printed in black and white. If possible, please submit your typed writing, or scan* of your original work. If your best work is something you created outside of class, you may submit that instead. Entries are limited to one submission per student plus one (optional) cover contest entry.
Cover Contest!
Students are invited to design a cover drawing for this year’s magazine. The artwork should be in color, and should feature the theme “We All Belong.” All Bowman students will get a chance to vote for their favorite covers this year. If possible please submit a color scan* of your student’s artwork.
Bowman Writes Magazine will be printed and distributed to students in late Spring. Parents/guardians who do not wish to have their child’s classwork published, or their full name included with their work, may opt-out by contacting principal Jenny Corduck at [email protected].
*There are several apps available that are easy and convenient for scanning work (Adobe Scan, Microsoft Office Lens, CamScanner, or SwiftScan are all good options).
More info will be coming soon, along with a submission form for the cover artwork.
Thank you!
Math Team News
The Bowman Math Teams meet weekly before school, with 15-20 students from each of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. The students participate in the Continental Math League and the second competition for 4th and 5th graders was in December.
4th grade: There are 69 teams participating in this year’s CML Grade 4 Math at the Pythagorean level. Bowman’s team scored 28/36 for a total score across two tests of 61/72, which put them in the top 25% in the country and #1 in New England. Congratulations to Kiernan P., Joey W., Bennett S., and Kevin Y. who each had a 5/6 on their test.
5th grade: There are 72 teams participating in this year’s CML Grade 5 Math at the Pythagorean level. Bowman’s team scored 32/36 for a total score across two tests of 66/72, which put them in the top 15% in the country and #1 in New England. Congratulations to Charles C. and Jerry C. who each had a perfect score on their test.
Excellent job to both teams! The third competition for 4th and 5th-grade teams and the first competition for our 3rd-grade team will take place in January.
