Big Map Night – Asia!
Tuesday, March 17, 5:30-7:00 PM
The Big Map of Asia is coming to Bowman! Students will explore the map during the school day and families are invited to join us during Big Map Night, March 17, between 5:30 and 7:00 PM. This is a chance for Bowman families to walk an entire continent, viewing rivers, mountains, and other geographical formulations from atop the map. Alex Kuschel, the K-5 Social Studies Curriculum Coordinator, has set up a digital scavenger hunt for families to complete. Each family can sign up for a 20-minute time slot and complete the scavenger hunt with a personal device or an iPad borrowed from the school. Sign up for the Big Map of Asia so that we can plan the evening.
Family Math Night – Grades K-1
Tuesday, March 17th, 6:30-8:00 PM, Bowman School Cafeteria
Join us on Tuesday, March 17th from 6:30-8:00 PM for Family Math Night. Family Math Night is a chance for kindergarten and first graders, of all ability levels, to enjoy a playful evening of hands-on mathematical exploration with a parent or adult of their choice. Families are invited to work together on a wide variety of mathematical activities, puzzles, games, challenges, and brainteasers. Come if you love math and come even if you don’t!
We are asking families to sign up in advance due to the popularity of the event and to avoid overwhelming the children. We will offer two 40-minute sessions for families to explore the activities. Plan to attend either the 6:30–7:10 session, or the 7:20–8:00 session. Sign up for a session!
Questions? Email the Family Math Night team: [email protected]
Note: Bowman’s front doors will be locked. Please enter the school using the side door near the gym. We will have a door attendant for the first 20 minutes of each session.

News
Textile Recycling
Recycle your textiles and Bowman gets paid by the pound for your donations!
Every year, 21 billion pounds of textiles are thrown away in the United States. 45% of these textiles can be reused, 30% can be turned into wiping cloths, and 20% recycled into new products.
You can drop off your used textiles in the white bin outside Bowman (front parking lot). Items just need to be clean and dry, and in a bag. Accepted items include clothing, shoes (flip flops too!), linens, accessories, and stuffed animals! Worn-out items are welcome, and almost everything can be reused or repurposed. See the full list of acceptable textiles.
Box Tops
Now is the time to download the new Box Top app!
Download the new and improved, user-friendly Box Tops app, register and select Bowman as your school, and then scan an eligible receipt containing Box Tops products. You’ll earn 10 cents for each Box Tops product purchased plus extra earnings for any Bonus Box Tops opportunities. The app will automatically add Box Tops to your school’s earnings online, giving visibility to see how you are supporting your school in real-time.
Can I still send in regular Box Tops?
Yes! Keep clipping regular Box Tops and sending them in with your child as long as you continue to find them on packages. Bowman will still get credit for all clipped Box Tops.

Math Team
The Bowman Teams meet weekly before school. The 3rd grade team recently participated in the first of three Continental Math League competitions, and the 4th and 5th grade teams completed the third of five. Students were given 6 problems and had 30 minutes to solve them independently. Each correct answer was worth 1 point and the top 6 scores became the team’s score.
3rd grade: There are 281 teams participating in this year’s CML Grade 3 Math. Bowman’s team scored 36/36, which put them in 20-way tie for the top spot in the country, and among 2 teams with a perfect score in New England. Congrats to Akshay R., Akshobhya S., Bennett S., Eli W., Noor M., Sofia G., and Joey W. who all had a perfect score on their tests.
4th grade: There are 135 teams participating in this year’s CML Grade 4 Math at the Pythagorean level (the higher of the 2 levels). Bowman’s team scored 32/36, giving them a total through three tests of 97/108. This puts them in the top 9% in the country and #2 in New England. Congratulations to Bart B. and Vivek A. who each had a perfect score on their test.
5th grade: There are 133 teams participating in this year’s CML Grade 5 Math at the Pythagorean level (the higher of the 2 levels). Bowman’s team scored 36/36, giving them a total of 103/108, which puts them in the top 4% in the country and #1 in New England. Congratulations to Aaron Y., Alexander D., Emily H., Erin E., Ian S., Khayal D., and Zachary Z. who all had a perfect score on their tests.
Excellent job to all teams! Every member of the team worked hard and can take pride in this accomplishment. The next competition for each team will take place in February.
Volunteers Needed!
PTA Open Positions
Please consider volunteering for one of the open PTA positions this school year.
VP Membership – Needed NOW for next school year!
Join the PTA Board as VP Membership! We are looking for 1 or 2 parents to shadow this position for the rest of this year and take over for next year. We encourage every Bowman family to become a member of the PTA so that we can continue delivering programs and services vital to our students, parents and teachers. Most of the responsibilities for this role happen during the planning phase (Spring) and membership drive (Fall). Come join our board! If you’re interested please email: [email protected].
School Directory
We need one or two more parents volunteers to help with our online and print directory. If you’re interested please email: [email protected].
Disco Bingo – Shadow
Bingo Night is a fun filled night for the whole family with teacher and student Bingo callers. Volunteers focus on publicizing the annual event (usually in Winter), obtaining prizes and recruiting Bingo callers. If you’re interested please email: [email protected].
Parent Volunteers for Artsonia
The art room is looking for three volunteers for next year (2020-2021), to help with photographing and uploading student art work for Artsonia, our online art gallery for student artwork. This is something that can be done at home with the help of an iPad or phone camera. For the last several years it’s been a great program here at Bowman. Please consider volunteering. Our current volunteer can train you before the school year ends and show you all the in’s and out’s.
Thank You!
